Workplace and Life Skills

"All the so called "secrets of success" will not work unless you do".   Author Unknown

As you read about the value of and lack thereof of certain work related traits, hopefully  it will motivate you to examine your own areas of strengths and weaknesses.  This type of imformation is often looked at as if it just "happens" later on in life as you mature and enter the work force.  Some of that is true---however, while you are in high school and have the time to, now is when you should begin to develope these traits.  It will serve you well to utilize your time in this way.  Each picture and button has a related article; the teacher will assign a writing assignment that pertains to each.

The Value of Teamwork

Sometimes there is that awkwardness that occurs when you are asked to work together with strangers and join a "team".  Yes, but if you overcome your feelings and learn to interact positively with one another---you will find that in those moments you discover things about yourself.  Your talents, abilities, experiences, insights become displayed within the group and soon what happens---is, you start to gain the respect of your peers.  In the real world of work, this will often lead to promotion and monetary gain.

Workplace Ethics

Although this is often overlooked in this generation, you cannot put enough value on the importance of work ethics----of doing the right thing, even when it is inconvenient.  What is the "right thing" you might ask?  As a starting point, it is doing your best at all times no matter who is watching.  It is being on time, it is going back to work when the break is over, it is putting that company pencil back where it belongs, etc. . . . . .

Working Together

Working together successfully is a tremendous assest in todays work place.  It is a coveted and often learned "skill" that will enable you to develop your other skills like problem solving and critical thinking.  Click on the picture and the buttom to read two seperate articles on working as a team.

Following Through

Very much in the realm of "workplace ethics" but I find this characteristic so important and valuable, that I put it in its own category.  This often makes or breaks a project within a company.  It is a characteristic that will often make you stand out   above the "crowd".  Do not overlook this valuable asset----make it yours and learn to "follow through. Make procrastination a thing of the past!
