As I ponder the path of teaching and the journey of life itself, there are certain traits of any institution that are  part of it's foundation for success.  It could be a business, a marriage, a school, a classroom----they all need certain ingredients if they are to be successful.

Because I see this aspect of human interaction so very misunderstood at times, especially in high school, this trait ranks high on my list as a necessary ingredient to success. That trait or ingredient is RESPECT.  Unfortunately, it seems to be slipping away from society as a whole and especially here in high school.

Respect is one of the foundations in my own family---and it is the same in my classroom. Certain postions command respect, policeman, principal, president, teacher-----but most repect is built when it is mutually given by both parties.  Learn to repect others and it will pay life long dividends in the relationships that you build.  Click on the picture to access an article on respect and then begin to practise it every day and in all situations.
