Spec intro 2
Intro to Plan
Specifications

Sometimes you just need more descriptive detail.  Sometimes you just need to know what kind of something is being used in a plan.  The details and specifications give you that information.  They refine the information so you know exactly what to use and how to use it---whatever it is.  This is very important when bidding the job as a contractor.

These are some more details that give you some other insight into the importance of the specs and details of a building plan.  As you look at them you will also, once again, overview a set of plan drawings.

 Specifications and Details:

The specifications are a written description of everything that is not convenient or necessary to show graphically in the plans - like the make and model number of your new appliances, the make and sizes of your windows, and the types of doors you'll use.

Whatever you don't show in the plans must be spelled out in the specifications. With your help, your architect or designer will write up the specifications for your new home. Make sure they do, your banker will require these documents, and the construction will be difficult without them.

The details are a more specific graphic interpetation of some building element found on a set of plans.  The detail for something on a drawing will be given on an additional page that is indicated by a key or legend found on the area of the plan that needs more graphic information.
