CItizens Architects Apprenticeship Program
JPL Invention Challenge
Skills USA Competition
ACE Mentoring

These are some of the main volunteer opportunities that are additional learning experineces connected with the class.  They usually take place after school, but also can be a part of an engineering or architecture club which meets during the week.     Each learning experience will give you a greater focus and understanding of the fields of architecture, construction, and engineering.  Listed below are some of those activities.  The meeting times and extent of committment will be discussed by the teacher.  Personal involvement also counts as extra credit toward your regular class grade.   Through each picture below there are additional links to information and videos of each opportunity.

Class Opportunities

Here is the one of the foundations of our Engineering Club. Each year we are given an engineering challenge by the NASA engineering department at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.  The challenge is an awesome experience in design, engineering, mathematics, and teamwork.  The competition culminates  at JPL in Pasadena.  Step into the challenge and experience this life changing event.

There are some amazing opportunities through this program.  We meet on Saturday and are given hands on instruction into the world of architecture.  We learn many of the practical aspects of architecture like sketching, modeling and CAD drawing. while working on specific projects.  Internships are available during the summer with certain architectural firms.   .

ACE is the place!  ACE stands for Architecture, Construction and Engineering and is another opportunity to explore and experience these careers.  We meet every other week and learn from mentors from these fields while traveling to different firms and construction sites.  There are end of the year scholarships and week long camps in these fields for the summer.  Again, a great opportunity to learn from individuals in these fields!!

The focus of this activity is in the field of construction. We will train for regional and state competitions that involve building a project with a group. This organization has many opportunties for leadership growth as well.  So we will explore the Skills resources and continue to build this program at Hamilton.
